I want to be upfront and let you know right away that this trash can doesn't magically take out the trash for you or give you money whenever you use it (just like the NanoTouch Touchless Trash Can in the Sims). In reality, every time you take out the trash, you're actually spending money. Speaking of expenses, I purchased this trash can with my own money and I'm reviewing it as an actual end user.
To be honest, at first, I thought this trash can was just a gimmick. However, after using it for a while, I discovered that some of its features were actually quite useful to me. So, was it worth replacing my main trash can at home?
Let's dive straight into the review based on the criteria of Form, Function, and Maintenance to find out.
Form
The white color of this trash can is incredibly versatile. It has a clean and modern look that can easily blend with any surrounding or décor. It stands out on its own, yet it also has the ability to complement and enhance the aesthetic of its surroundings.
One great feature is that you will never see the plastic bag or trash liner from the outside. It's designed in such a way that the bag remains neatly tucked away, maintaining the overall sleek appearance of the trash can.
Let's talk dimensions! It measures 11.65 x 12.60 x 16.80 inches (haha, such precision!). This size is just right for my needs, fitting comfortably in the desired space without taking up too much room.
Function
The main function of the trashcan is to consolidate and temporarily store waste. The TSHOWMALL S120E does that well. The maximum 17 liter capacity is enough for a room or a studio unit. To give you an idea, a 2L soft drink plastic bottle can be thrown in it easily
Here are the notable features.
The lid of this trash can opens automatically when you hover your hands or trash on top of it. However, I must admit that there are occasional delays or accidental triggers when I pass by the trash can. The company claims that there's no need to bend over because of the automatic lid, but honestly, you don't really need to bend over to throw trash in a trash can without a cover or a foot pedal trash can. Plus, those options don't have the issue of delays.
Now, let's talk about the trash bag included with this trash can. It comes in a cartridge form, which contains a long continuous roll of plastic bag that is uncut. This roll can hold up to 30 15.5L bags, which typically lasts about a month for me.
The interesting thing about the trash bag cartridge is that it's not pre-cut. Instead, it expands according to the capacity of the trash inside the trash can until it reaches the maximum 15.5L capacity. When I press and hold the button in front of the trash can, it uses heat to seal the trash bag airtight, and it seals it to the exact size of the amount of trash. This means that I can make use of every inch of the trash bag all the time, which has been the most useful feature for me. With regular trash bags, whenever I try to tie them to take out the trash, dust, pet hair, and the offensive smell of soiled kitty litter (even if it's tied inside a separate bag) always seem to escape from the opening, no matter how careful I am.
When the heat seals the trash bag, it cuts it away from the remaining roll, and the start of the remaining roll becomes the bottom of the new plastic bag, ready for the next use.
There is also a fan that operates whenever a bag is being replaced. Although I searched the manual and online, I still haven't found the exact purpose of this fan. I'm guessing it's meant to fan out any odors and cool down the heat after sealing.
One great thing about this trash can is that it's rechargeable. A single charge lasts up to 35 days with regular use, which is quite impressive.
As a consumer, these features and functionalities have added convenience to my daily trash disposal routine. The automatic lid, heat sealing, and rechargeable capability make this trash can a valuable addition to my home.
Maintenance
Both the outer and inner parts of this trash can are made of plastic, allowing them to be easily cleaned with a damp cloth. However, it's important to note that using chemical cleaners may potentially cause discoloration.
One thing to consider is that obtaining the cartridge for the trash bag might become difficult in the future. So, it's worth keeping in mind the availability of replacements.
Since the trash bag cartridge is used, the trash can will always have a lining, eliminating the hassle of changing and fitting the lining manually.
I did experiment with using a normal black plastic bag, just in case, and the sealing feature still worked. However, in that case, you would have to replace the bag just like a regular trash can.
Most trash cans with lids have a nesting bucket inside, making it easy to clean, especially with water. However, the TSHOWMALL S120E only has a shallow plastic receiver, which might require a bit more effort to clean thoroughly.
Speaking of cleaning with water, it's important to note that the TSHOWMALL contains electronic parts. So, if you decide to clean the entire trash can with water, it could damage the electronic components. It's best to keep food waste away from the TSHOWMALL S120E. Personally, I don't throw my food waste in this trash can. I always separate it. Nowadays, it goes straight into the food grinder. When I didn't have a grinder, I used a Bokashi box for food waste disposal.
Overall, it's essential to be mindful of the cleaning methods and materials used with this trash can due to its plastic construction and electronic components.
